The container cargo consists of materials, which are transported in containers and are easily breakable. They consist of FMCG products, electronic goods and food products, which are packaged before transporting. The liquid bulk consists of liquid raw materials like crude oil and finished products like wine, which are transported in bulk. This type of cargo mostly consists of oils of various types like petrol, kerosene and even vegetable oil. The dry bulk cargos are transported from one port to another in huge bulks. The dry bulk freight consists of dry commodities like metals , coals, grain, sand , sugar, salt and even yeasts used for making alcoholic drinks. Break bulk cargo consists of commodities, which are broken into parts and racks to enable easy transport across ports. The category consists of freight goods like paper, wood, bags of cocoa, rolls of steel and components of heavy machinery like turbines. Demand and supply plays a very important role in the shipping freight industry. the following are the factors which effect the demand and supply in the shipping freight industry: Cargo related issues: Cargo related issues are one of the most important factors affecting demand and supply in the shipping freight industry. According to the World Shipping Council, the shipping freights across oceans constitute sixty percent of the international trade. The quantity of goods commercial container ships carry amount to about $ 12 trillion in 2017 (Worldshipping.org. 2017). The cargo ships are now capable of carrying 246 million deadweight of goods, as per the graph below. The council reports show that the countries exporting majority of the freights are from the Asia, Europe, North America, South America and Australia. These markets also account for producing majority of the commodities, which traded in the freight market. Many commodities like agricultural products are seasonal in nature. For example, the second figure shows variable wheat export by Ukraine in three years namely, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18. Considering the fact that Ukraine is one of the leading exporters of wheat, the seasonal nature of wheat export means the vessels carrying wheat freight would be in demand only during certain time of the year. Some countries may require importing certain commodities during a specific time of the year, which creates high demand on the shipping freight. For example, there are heavy demands for luxury goods in countries during the festival times since the upper class of the society around the world demand these goods. This creates high demands for the vessels carrying luxury goods. The figure below shows the Baltic Dry Index, which indicates the amount of raw materials moving across the ocean. The rising and falling movements of the graph shows that there are higher flows of goods across the seas during some time of the year. One can construe that the changing graph actually projects changes in demand and supply of certain raw materials. For example, export of meat or food items creates demands for vessels with refrigeration facilities while metal exporters demand bulky vessels. Again, food oils require cleaner vessels compared to transport of petrol. This also shows that there is more demand for particular kinds of vehicles during certain parts of the year. This discussion shows that shifting demands for vessels create cargo related issues in the shipping freight market management. Vessel related issues comprise of several factors relating to the demand and supply of vessels. The number of vessels at the service of the exporters and importers differs from one part of the year to the other. These demands for vessels differ with the demand and supply of the commodities they carry. For example, the import of crude oil in the European Union according to the figure increased between 2010 and 2015 compared to 2005 and 2010. This shows that the demand for the vessels carrying bulk cargo like petroleum also increased with response to the increase in petroleum demand in the EU. The graph below shows the major ship building nations, which supplies ships to the shipping freight market in response to this demand. One must also note that the ports of North America like Vancouver, New York and New Jersey and the European ports of Antwerp and hamburger are among the busiest ports in the world handling a huge bulk of international trade but remain blocked with ice for months. The icebreakers help the cargo ships to reach these ports and are in great demand. This increase in demand leads to increase in the freights rates of the icebreakers and ships carrying goods to and from those ports. Again some portions of oceans and rivers are relatively less deep which allow smaller ships to accede to them. As a result, these ships increase their freight rates taking advantage of their hig h demand. This discussion shows that special sailing conditions like icy ports lead to increase of demand for a specific type of vessel like icebreakers, which make ways through ice. These sailing condition related issues lead to increase in demand of these special ships, which lead to increase in their rates. Port related issues refer to attributes of some ports, which influence demand and rates of freights of ships operating between those ports. For example, the ports like Shanghai, Singapore and Rotterdam are the highly congested due to the immense volume of cargo traded through them. As a result, ships commuting between these ports often charge higher rates than the ones travelling to less important ports like Karachi and Chittagong (brighthubengineering.com 2017). Critical and Creative Thinking free essay sample

Critical thinking is an important and valuable skill to have. Critical thinking affects both your professional lifestyle as well as your personal lifestyle. Critical thinkers should encompass skills needed to thoroughly analyze all the variables in a problem. During critical thinking, decisions should be based upon logic, and relevant and accurate data. Problem-solving and decision making is part of our everyday lives. It is important to use critical and creative thinking when solving problems and making decisions. Without thinking critically, you may miss out on important details that may help you come up the best solution or make the best decision. Identify an important decision you have made that required critical and creative thinking One of the most important decisions I have had to make that required critical and creative thinking is selecting an undergrad university to obtain my bachelor’s degree. This decision required critical thinking because the ultimate choice would have a crucial impact on my future endeavors. An irrational person finds it impossible to detect and stand out strongly against issues put forth and which affect them in one way or another, falling victims of these issues. In regard to our parliamentarians, they tend to use ideological philosophies to mobilize people psychologically towards some desired goals. With the general election coming soon- in March parliamentarians who are interested in the presidency seat have already come together to form large coalitions which intend to bring different communities together by the goals they desire to reach. For example Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta has been seen around mobilizing Women and Youths in His campaigns as these groupings hold the majority of votes. They have done this, keeping in mind that their goal is to hold the highest seat in 2013 general elections. Since change is inevitable in the society, the ideas leading to this change has to be managed carefully and reasonably, otherwise we could end up with half-baked ideas which could be disastrous in the society. With these changes our parliamentarians have change their political positions and understanding from foreign influence, into critically appraising the national understanding of their own people. MPs are joining social networks with a good example being Hon. Martha Karua, who has used both Twitter and Facebook to educate Kenyans on her presidency bid, she also uses it as a feedback tool where Kenyans can freely interact with her by expressing their opinions using the social media. The current government tries to insist on people’s participation in thinking about any change in the society. Parliamentarians have overtime been forcing dogmas on people but it has emerged that people are becoming thinkers and hence giving the society directions in terms of ideas. More youths have gone through the education system and are coming back to educate their societies, thus parliamentarians have started indulging youths in their day to day activities as they have become the back bone of the society. For example, Hon. Raila is seen as a politician who is popular among the youths and also carries with himself a reform tag. This is a might be a massive boast for his presidential campaign because the voters in Kenya are no longer in the dark old days of KANU. They are enlightened on their rights, what their country needs and which kind of leader can create a better Kenya for them. In the recent past, members of parliament have increased their pays tremendously without being taxed. Thus they are not showing a good example to Kenyans, whose salaries are heavily taxed each month. A few members like Hon. Johnson Muthama has insisted that MP’s should be taxed by Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) in the same way as all other Kenyan citizens are taxed. He  is the first politician in Kenya to voluntarily have his Parliamentary salary taxed and he beliefs that if the poorest Kenyans are forced to pay their taxes to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), then it is only fair that the highest paid Kenyans (many of whom are Members of Parliament or members of the government) should also be taxed. In regard to personal identity, most of our parliamentarians are in the second stage on individual development, in that they inherit mass conscience and ra tionality from the social environment, thus becoming authoritarian and paternal in their ways of life. The difference between our parliamentarians is to do with one’s own initiative in thought and action. A critical and creative person becomes an agent of change with unique identity. With this many parliamentarians will be elected back to power by what they have done to the communities. Some Members exhibit sensitive interpersonal intelligence where they tend to fully understand their people, their intentions, motivations and desires as a result to work effectively with them. This intelligence allows them to stay in power as voters still re-elect them for the good work and leadership they exhibit. For example, Hon. Johnson Muthama played a crucial role in the peace building efforts that various political leaders were involved in. Hon. Muthama spent nine days in the Rift Valley in the period of post-election violence, visiting Internally Displaced persons and looking for ways in which to assist them in their time of need. They use survival tactics that year in, year out they are elected back to the parliament, i. e delay projects so that just at the beginning of the election year they will promise to speed up the projects especially in infrastructure developments in their constituencies. Our parliamentarians tend to be intellectual people, who generate ideas that help solve everyday problems and who innovatively produces useful things. With the current regime many parliamentarians have used funds allocated to them effective in helping their communities, such funds include the Constituency Development Funds, where they have built hospitals, schools and create new ventures and businesses for their people. In parliament, problems are identified and solutions need to be decided upon. Some decisions are made due to intuition, where members trust their gut feelings more than they trust the analytical aspect. Though this thinking may be fast, it can lead to poor decision making due to prejudice and lack of open discussions. Decisions make as calculation tend to generate workable conclusions as there are steps required to follow, during parliament sittings when a problem is termed as strong, commission of inquiries are selected to find gather information, identify criteria, weighs them before coming into a concrete decision. They use people to gang up against each other on their favor; the 2007 General election may have been caused due to political influences on some sectors of Kenyan communities, who turned against each other, thus leading to the election violence. They tend to be very inconsiderate in their doings as soon as they are elected in to power. Most do not appear in their local constituencies for a whole year. Most members of parliament have been listed in corruption scams, where they use money allocated for a project for their own benefits. Recently Prof. Anyang Nyong’o The Medical Services Minister Prof Anyang has been on the headlines over the National Hospital Insurance Fund. Nyong’o who is ODM Secretary General has been on the spotlight over mass plundering of billions of shillings belonging to NHIF. It is also alleged that Prof. Anyang wired KShs 900 million to his personal accounts in Jersey and Cayman islands. Julius Robert Oppenheimer Julius Robert Oppenheimer was an American physicist and government adviser, who directed the development of the first atomic bombs. To scientists, he was not only the builder of the atomic bomb and a pioneer in atomic energy, but a master of many languages, a good conversationalist and a brilliant mathematician. He was also a writer, and an expert in both the history of architecture and the religions of the world. Oppenheimer, who was born in New York City on April 22, 1904, and educated at Harvard University and the Universities of Cambridge and Gottingen, grew up in a middle class neighborhood. He was raised by his mother, who was an artist who provided a nice apartment with a subdued, tasteful atmosphere. His grandfather came from Germany where he was a peasant farmer and grain merchant. The Oppenheimer's family business was importing fabric for the clothing industry. As a child in grade school, Oppenheimer excelled in all subjects. This continued straight through all of his schooling. During his years at Harvard University, Oppenheimer excelled in Latin, Greek, physics and chemistry. He also published poetry and studied Oriental philosophy. After graduating in 1925, he sailed to England to do research in the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge University , which, under the leadership of Lord Rutherford, had an international reputation for its pioneering studies on atomic structure. Oppenheimer was fortunate to enter physics in 1925 because that is when modern quantum mechanics came into being. He was one of the first scientists to use quantum mechanics for the exploration of problems which had been insoluble with the old quantum theory. While at Cambridge, Oppenheimer had the opportunity to work with the British scientific community in its efforts to advance the cause of atomic research. Shortly thereafter, Max Born invited him to Gottingen University, where he met other prominent physicists, such as Niels Bohr and Paul Dirac, and where, in 1927, he received his doctorate. He then returned to the United States. After serving with the International Education Board from 1928 to 1929, Oppenheimer became a professor of physics at the University of California at Berkeley and the California Institute of Technology where he worked from1929 to 1947. There he built up large schools of theoretical physics. He was noted for his contributions relating to the quantum theory, the theory of relativity, cosmic rays, positrons, and neutron stars. He was also able to show that a baffling movement of a deuteron (heavy hydrogen nucleus), being loosely bound, surrenders its neutron on entering the field of a heavy nucleus. The effect was that the heavy nucleus captures the stripped neutron, becomes unstable and then radioactive. This discovery helped to later develop the hydrogen bomb, which is thousands of times more powerful than the atomic bomb. In his early years of teaching, Oppenheimer had little success and many students complained to the head of the physics department about how quiet he was and how he overestimated his audience. The department head, Raymond T. Birge, knew that Oppenheimer already knew that he was not getting through to the students and therefore did not need to be told. Soon enough he began to interact with his audience by dropping his pace of delivery and going to great lengths to make connections between ideas clearer. By doing this he attracted a small group of some of the brightest students. These students thought of him as a brilliant lecturer and some remarked that he was one of their most inspiring professors. In 1940 Oppenheimer married a woman named Katherine Harrison. They had one son whom they named Peter and a daughter whom they named Katherine. They lived in a beautiful house on Eagle Hill in the San Francisco Bay area. During a leave of absence that lasted from 1943 until 1945, Oppenheimer served as director of the atomic bomb project at Los Alamos, New Mexico. After warnings from Albert Einstein and Leo Szilard, both respected scientists, that the world would be in grave danger if the Nazis were the first to create an atomic bomb, Oppenheimer began to seek a process for the separation of uranium-235 from natural uranium. He also strove to discover a way to determine the critical mass of uranium required to make such a bomb. On July 16, 1945, the joint effort of outstanding scientists at Los Alamos created the first nuclear explosion. This took place at Alamogordo, New Mexico. That October, Oppenheimer resigned from the project. His leadership and organizational skills during the project earned him the Presidential Medal of Merit in 1946. In

After the Civil War, newly freed slaves faced many challenges. Whites, especially in the South regarded blacks as inferior more than ever. While blacks were trying to move on and support their families outside the plantation that they were used to, Whites were engineering new ways to keep blacks as second class citizens. Sharecropping, which emerged as the dominant form of working the land, allowed freedom from white supervision and control but curtailed blacks from becoming wealthy and from owning land. Black Codes were supposed to give "persons of color" their freedom in a constitutional form. The real purpose, however, was to restrict the freedom of the black labor force and keep freed people as close to slave status as possible. These codes stated that although persons of color do have some rights such as the right to own land, make contracts, and t o sue and be sued, they are not entitled to social or political equality with white persons. The codes were outrageous, actually stating that if a "person of color" makes a contract for service or labor, they shall be known as servants, and those whom with they contract shall be known as masters. These "masters" were given the right to "inflict moderate chastisement and impose reasonable restraint" and to "recapture" his apprentice if he "departs from his service." It also placed many other restrictions on "persons of color." The federal government was outraged from finding out of the mistreatment of formerly freed slaves in respect of the Black Codes. The Republican-dominated Congress concluded that old Confederates were back in power and Black Codes and racial violence caused reason for increased protection of African Americans.
